The Empire President: Jeremy Scahill on Obama’s “Neo-Con” Doctrine of Military Force in UN Speech

This is part 2 of Amy Goodman’s interview with Scahill on his film Dirty Wars: the World Is a Battlefield from April of this year; part 1 is here (29:34)  It would be difficult to give his long career of dogged journalistic courage in the face of danger  too much praise or too much credit for bringing us so much first-person reporting on the Dark Military and their Secret Wars.

This is the transcript of Barack Obama’s ‘remarks’ to the UN General Assembly on September 24, 2013 (yesterday).

Among many other lies and bold agendas obscured by American Exceptionalism jingoism, he said:

We will ensure the free flow of energy from the region to the world. Although America is steadily reducing our own dependence on imported oil, the world still depends on the region’s energy supply, and a severe disruption could destabilize the entire global economy.

We will dismantle terrorist networks that threaten our people. Wherever possible, we will build the capacity of our partners, respect the sovereignty of nations, and work to address the root causes of terror. But when it’s necessary to defend the United States against terrorist attack, we will take direct action.

This leads me to a final point. There will be times when the breakdown of societies is so great, the violence against civilians so substantial that the international community will be called upon to act. This will require new thinking and some very tough choices. While the United Nations was designed to prevent wars between states, increasingly we face the challenge of preventing slaughter within states. And these challenges will grow more pronounced as we are confronted with states that are fragile or failing — places where horrendous violence can put innocent men, women and children at risk, with no hope of protection from their national institutions.

I have made it clear that even when America’s core interests are not directly threatened, we stand ready to do our part to prevent mass atrocities and protect basic human rights. But we cannot and should not bear that burden alone. In Mali, we supported both the French intervention that successfully pushed back al Qaeda, and the African forces who are keeping the peace.

In the spirit of ‘Build it and they will come if ya force the issue’, you can read more about AFRICOM, its mission statement, and ‘failed states’ indices here.  It will give you The Shivers, then Piss You Off.  Good.

    What Utter, Within US FAIL:

    et al.

  2. to say the truth, i’d been conspicuously avoiding the navy yard killings, lest they cause me to look deeper within the military mindset and unintended consequences. i don’t even know the alleged killer’s name or bio, bruce.

do tell me what i would be advised to know. if you would?

this speech chilled me to my core. if you have a time, check out the Africom link; same thing: portentous to the Nth degree.

  3. arggh; tinfoil hats are the recommended defense. oh, shit, oh dear.

i hadn’t even known he’d been killed. too close to the sci-fi chips planted in the heads of super soldiers, just waiting for instructions.

    interesting site…

can’t think of any appropriate music. oh, wait! john trudell.

  4. Moving (as Were THEY). I sent it to “our” Genocidal BS (Buffalo Soldier-n-thief) Oppressident!

  5. er…what did you send to His Serenity (h/t: chePas)? the info on radiometric brain confabulation, or the trudell? ;~)

‘we are not men. we are devo!’

er…also. my son (african american/azteca) did his senior history paper on cathy whozzit, female buffalo soldier. just sayin’ ‘arrrgh’.

  6. The Trudell, although devo may also be apt (to another US military massacre, at Kent), No disrespect to black or azteca brothers (and sisters); perhaps the original “wild buffalo” may have been more apropos, but with “his serenity”, it’s too close to “bull in a china shop” and I wouldn’t want him serene about his pivot to East Asia!

  7. trudell knows so much, has experienced the damnation of the government for dissenters more than any i can name. yes, i went to kent state (lived in kent for a number of years), and devo’s bass player was my first serious boyfriend.

but i’d really meant did you send the trudell, or the page about the radio broadcasts being able to put simple words in a person’s head? i wonder what relationship the sound canons in use here and there have to that process? or the light cannons, for that matter. i know those blasts are exceedingly painful.

i did forget that i’d meant to mention that the 2011 leaked tpp language included a US military presence in the signatory nations, and in the linked africom post was the newly birthed concept and hardware of ‘sea-basing’. lemme grab the video. well, shoot, that one was ‘heading toward chaos’, arrgh. can’t find the other one, but this is similar. but the big deal was that ‘host countries didn’t even need to invite the US military in’! but with drone death-dealing deliveries, this seems to be another big wave of the future… semper fi, and all that rot. added: since i found the link, i’ll embed the ‘toward the sounds of chaos’ one.

Ack, it was bugging me that I could find this one; i’d only provided the link, as it wasn’t on youtube.

  8. Sea Base (SB); what, now is the “crotch” a buncha Boy Scouts (BS),again? OrWell mirrorspeaking, they could simply call ’em Big Brother’s “floating fortresses”. Or what my navally stranded dad on Guadalcanal might have called amphibious chow scows.
But the sheer pre-emptory “contumacious disregard” shown by the Corp. for target nations’ sovereignty and contempt for US citizens as the homeland enemy’s fifth column! I guess they’re not Powerpoint projections for nothing!
And how can any of US continue countenancing (Smedley)
Butler/Baracketeer terrorizing WITH his BushCo. Al Qaeda “base” in Syria; but AGAINST “it” in the horn of Africom? Guess “we’re” channeling the pirates there also, too. Aargh? No, that’s Hoo-(h)aa! Instead.
*I didn’t his serenity the dog-whistling report; as the Company man, HE KNOWS!

  9. PNAC-policy may face increasing challenges as the revolution of consciousness proceeds. how many are beginning to challenge the instutions that so many believed were the only sources of power, creating beggars for crumbs and gravy spills from their piggy troughs? (wish that buffy song were still available on youtube)

no, the world increasingly sees that the US imperium is in decline, and there are cracks in the facade, escalating into desperate mistakes as the power shifts globally. for that, we must be glad (eh, General Clapper? how’re ya doin’ tonight? )

chow scows and daddy stranded on guadalacanal?

    but:

  10. Bruce in wonderland replies,
    E Mail Me.
    Subject: O R U ?

  11. is the mystery more fun, biw? i’m rather conflicted about it, to say the truth…
i am such a nosy wench.

it’s balloon festival weekend here in bumfuck, co. i heard some chuff-chuffs a bit ago, and a balloon was coming down in our field just north of the house, lol.

  12. they’re DAFFODILS, ya great idjit! or, in hobbit-speak: daffadowndillys.
