Equivocator-in-Chief Reiterates Enthusiastic Support for Legalizing MMJ

President choom gang*

From the Daily Caller:

“In a CNN special to be aired on Sunday, not only will President Barack Obama state his full support of medical marijuana, he’ll also advocate for alternative models of drug abuse treatment which don’t involve incarceration.

The television special, called “Weed 3,” features CNN’s chief medical correspondent Sanjay Gupta, a neurosurgeon who came to support medical marijuana after reviewing the evidence. This time around, he’ll be delving into the politics of medical marijuana research and interviewing President Barack Obama, according to an email obtained by The Daily Caller News Foundation.

Obama has previously predicted that more states will follow the lead of Washington and Colorado in legalizing recreational marijuana, and confirmed that although marijuana is still illegal on the federal level, the Department of Justice will look the other way. (RELATED: Obama Makes A Big Prediction: More States Will Join Colorado And Legalize Marijuana)

Gupta and Obama briefly discussed the recent bipartisan bill on the Senate floor introduced by Democratic Sen. Cory Booker, which proposes to reschedule marijuana from Schedule 1 to Schedule 2.

Gupta wanted to know directly if Obama supports Booker’s bill.

“You know, I think I’d have to take a look at the details, but I’m on record as saying that not only do I think carefully prescribed medical use of marijuana may in fact be appropriate and we should follow the science as opposed to ideology on this issue, but I’m also on record as saying that the more we treat some of these issues related to drug abuse from a public health model and not just from an incarceration model, the better off we’re going to be,” Obama responded.” [snip]

“If the president means what he says about following science, then there’s no question he should support legislation to move marijuana out of Schedule I, a category that’s supposed to be reserved for substances with no medical value,” Tom Angell, chairman of the Marijuana Majority, told The Daily Caller News Foundation.

“And, since it’s so hard to get anything through Congress these days, he should even do more than that. He should exercise his power under the Controlled Substances Act to administratively reschedule marijuana right away,” Angell added. “The only thing stopping him from doing that is his own reluctance to follow through on his stated principle of letting science dictate policy.”

This, while he could order the release of *every* prisoner convicted of nonviolent cannabis sales (probably most), and continues to fund the abominable Merida Initiative that has resulted in massive violence, burgeoning
drug cartels, and related violence that has sent hundreds of thousands fleeing
(especially Indigenous) Mexico for safer spaces.  (No, most did not find it in the US, but were stuck in cages at the border before being ‘repatriated’ to Mexico.

And what was that about the DOJ “looking the other way”?  From the dailychronic.net nine days ago:  ‘Congressmen Warn DOJ to Stop Federal Medical Marijuana Prosecutions’

WASHINGTON, DC — U.S. Congressmen Dana Rohrabacher (R-CA) and Sam Farr (D-CA) sent a letter to Attorney General Eric Holder and the Department of Justice on Wednesday questioning whether the continued medical marijuana prosecutions being waged by Department are in compliance the spending medical marijuana restriction in the DOJ budget.The Rohrabacher-Farr Amendment was included in the final budget bill that President Obama signed in December. Despite this amendment, DOJ has continued to press forward with prosecuting state-legal medical marijuana conduct in several states, such as the Kettle Falls Five in Washington State and forfeiture actions against Berkeley Patients GroupHarborside, and others in California.”  Guess you’d better tell your henchmen to “look away”, Choom gang mon(and this is just one example).  And yes, I do believe that I’d seen a headline about you pardoning a few cannabis prisoners lately.  Shoot, the DOJ was even seizing plenty of MMJ dispensaries in the states that had made it legal.  Pfffft.

How many of those non-violent cannabis prisoners happen to be black, Mr. President?  We know how concerned you are about the #BlackLivesMatter movement.

  1. the Big Show isn’t until tonight, but bloomberg news asks: ‘Is the President Discovering the Political Benefits of Cannabis?’

well, yeah, given that ‘young’ republican prez candidates are laughing at the oldies running or maybe running on the dem side: of course. and obama is often running to catch up to voters. but this is pretty funny:

“President Barack Obama is heading to Jamaica this week. No, there’s no “Choom Gang” reunion in the works, mon. He’s visiting a conference of Caribbean nations on the way to a summit in Panama.
You could hardly be blamed for entertaining a “second term, baby!” fantasy about the president’s island itinerary, though, considering some of his recent words and moves about pot—and marijuana’s evolution in American politics. Much like gay marriage, it’s become a kind of wedge issue, one which may play an important role in the next cycle. And recently, the president may have signaled his intent to make use of it.”

rumors abound that monsanto has already patented some gmo cannabis, but kit oconnell at mintpress news debunked it pretty thoroughly for now.

but hell yeah, it’s not only a big deal since more of the medicinal values of cannabis are becoming well-known, but also: because capitalism. (i lived and worked construction in breckenridge; what an odious town, but all ski towns are, imo.

i’ve forgotten how many billions the dixie elixir dude has already raked in, but this page featuring snoop dog is purdy funny, even if in a sick sort of way (peter thiel).

  2. 0, O sez can be relied on. Only Alaska Fire/Rock Gravel and the Dog are $- toking the stash!

  3. Wendy, RV Scheide’s article at CP about the crackdown on small growers and co-ops in northern Cali contradicts Obama’s claims of tolerating MM. The author makes a good point that this agenda may be mostly about the coming Green Rush and our Capitalists, their Running Dogs or Lions who will monopolize the profits.

    • here’s the link; 2L2R right now (sunday chores n all). look good, but yes, rohrabackher’s letter was one example i found binging fast, re: WA and CA.

and yes to capitalist moguls wanting IN! the problems of banks not accepting cannabis money is a huge issue, given feds and forfeiture of property where ‘transactions’ take place.

and i’d meant to say that it’s altogether likely that monsanto, cargill, et.al. are already working on gm cannabis, and will try to patent every other grower out of business, and may fuck up everything as they try to do it. (terminator seeds, who knows what protein variants).

      • The Banksters quickly found a way to capitalize on this huge cash-flow after receiving assurances from the Feds, assurances that only the Banksters can depend on.

Once Big Capital has consolidated their control over MM and RM the seed thieves such as Monsanto will exert their power especially in the MM and potentially much larger hemp markets.

The small number of MM patients who need the powerful and expensive extracts will pay the market price or suffer until Big Pharma decides that the Govt will guarantee their profits through Medicaid.

  4. i assume you mean that the banksters don’t even launder the cash, if they already got the nods from the feds? meaning: it’s already been happening?
and yes, i think that’s what bigPharma would like, and i hope to goddess it doesn’t go down that way, not that i have any evidence to back up that hope.

(i’m just about to throw up one of the sickest stories yet, and i reckon my mind is on that. too bad i took a break and read the twitter thang.)
